Paid $1.8 billion to the Internal Revenue Service for a tax liability connected to an illegal, offshore tax shelter. It consisted of sheltering money from parcel reinsurance from 1984-1999 through a orporation called Overseas Partners Ltd. In June 2001, an Appeals Court overruled the Tax Court’s Decision that UPS had improperly tried to avoid federal income taxes.
The money has not been returned to UPS, as decisions on that are still up in the air. |
