2008 | One of the leaders of the Room of the representatives, the democrat James Oberstar, invited the American authority of the civil aviation (FAA)"to do the housework" in his practices after the discovery of serious gaps in inspections of safety. Mr. Oberstar, who directs the Committee on Transport, denounced a "close" relation between the FAA and the airline companies, after it appeared that Southwest Airlines made steal 117 apparatuses without them undergoing the necessary inspections. "the FAA needs to reconsider its relations with the airline companies", declared the member of Parliament during a hearing devoted to this scandal, which led to one audit of the whole of the airline companies operating in the United States. "the FAA needs to do the housework of the cellar to the attic, to correct the shooting, to recruit more inspectors", has it says. Two employees of the FAA denounced, during this hearing, the fact that some their colleagues had closed the eyes during years on the violations of the safety requirements by Southwest Airlines, of which several tens of apparatuses flew whereas they presented cracks in the fuselage. The FAA, which imposed on March 6 a fine of 10,2 million dollars on Southwest, carried out two weeks of audits aiming at the airline companies operating to the United States. : : Federal Aviation Authority translate | AFP |
