PORTUGAL’S Competition Authority accused six food companies of acting as an illegal cartel, allegedly fixing prices for supplying food and meals to government facilities including hospitals and schools.
The cartel’s activities would have cost the state some 172 million euros through price fixing and other market manipulation.
The six companies, Gertal and Itau (Trivalor), ICA and Nordigal (owned by the same company), Eurest, Uniself and Sodexho, face individual fines of up to 38 million euros, and if found guilty will be banned from public contracts for two years. |
